The importance of editors. Upset authors.

I’ve seen so many posts lately on social media about editors, and sadly, most of these posts have come from upset authors. It seems there are a lot of editors out there at the moment, who have no idea what they are doing. They just want to cash in. I find this so disheartening. Don’t get me wrong, there are also some AMAZING editors, too. Those people are worth their weight in gold, and should be appreciated greatly.
I, myself, have dealt with four editors. Both over here in the UK, and in the USA. I am the first one to admit that where editing is concerned, I’m basically crap. I know a little, and I can help out with a few things, but other than that, yeah… I’m useless. When my debut novel was first published, I thought it had gone through a good edit… oh how wrong I was. I was young and clueless. Only when the reviews started coming in, did I realise something was terribly wrong. To cut a long story short, I left this publishing house and joined another in the US. My book went through another edit, and I thought that THIS time, it would be much better. I signed several novels over to them and edits were performed on each.
Once again, reviews came in… guess what? The main issue people had with the books was the editing. I was devastated. One reviewer even put in their review “Has this book ever seen an editor?” I thought, wow, actually it’s seen two. What is going on? The second editor changed a lot and took out a lot of the punctuation. Then, another said, “Unedited novels should not be put up for sale.” That was the entirety of the second persons review. I cannot express just how upset I was.
I cannot remember exactly how it came about, but I was speaking to a friend and found out she had studied English Lit. She also told me she had always wanted to become an editor, but was rather scared of putting herself out there. She took a look at my books and was brutally honest with me. They were not in a good way at all. It seemed all the bad comments in the reviews were completely justified. Said friend then proceeded to go through ALL my books. I left my second publisher, and went down the Indie route. I can honestly say, since this woman has gone through my books, I have NEVER received a negative comment about the editing. True story. You’re more than welcome to check this out for yourselves.
There are no words to express how grateful I am to her. My books read better now than they ever have. I have also learned a lot from her. She’s open, honest, but friendly. She is supportive, reliable, and what she doesn’t know about editing… simply is not worth knowing.
She has since opening her own editing business and has worked with several authors. Her name is Jodi and she owns TJS Literary Editing. You can find a link to her Facebook page below this post, or in the left menu bar.
I just wanted to share my own experience with people.
     1) So that others who are currently going through the same or similar, know they are not alone.
     2) So that these authors know there are some genuinely amazing editors out there.
One thing I do believe is that these editors who go above and beyond should be credited. I credit Jodi and her company in every book. I believe she deserves it, and it may help others to find a good editor, and all around person, to work with. I will NEVER work with another editor for as long as I’m producing novels.
Please don’t let bad experiences get you down too much. It’s a bump in the road. But I assure you, there are good ones out there, and you will find one. Keep your chin up, keep writing your stories, and don’t let these experiences put you off.

Have a great week everyone!!

Book sale!

Hey everyone!

I'd like you all to meet a new friend of mine, Angela Fattig.

Angela spent most of her childhood reading any book she could find. That’s when her passion of writing was born. When she was 10, she started writing short stories and poems and kept quite a collection.
In 1998 she met Paul and they have shared a life together for 16 years. In 1999 she introduced the world to her first born, Brandi, and again in 2000, Sarah.
Today, when she is not doing what she loves, writing, she spends time with her beautiful family and the addition of two dogs named Izzy and Herly.
Angela’s inspirations have always been Stephen King, E L James, and Poe to name a few.

Angela is currently having a sale on one of her books, and we thought we'd share it with everyone. All the details are below, along with some teasers. Enjoy and thanks for stopping by!

Break away. Historic sites and inspiration.

Last weekend I went up to Northumberland. There were seven of us, me and my other half, my mum and dad, and my sister, Craig and my little niece, Faith. It was a nice relaxing break away. Friday to Monday.

As some people know, I have a love of history. I especially enjoy visiting historic places. It’s a passion, and I also get to do some of my photography. While I was away, I was able to put my English Heritage pass to use, and visited Lindisfarne Priory and Etal Castle. Both places were beautiful and very inspirational. There is just something about these ruins that fascinates me. When I walk around them my imagination goes into overdrive. I can almost imagine myself walking through them hundreds of years ago. I can picture the people walking past me and going about their lives. I often think that if the walls could talk, they would share some amazing stories and secrets. To me, it’s magical.

I wish I could feature all of these places in my books, and who knows, if I continue to write for the rest of my life (which is what I dream of) maybe I will be able to.

I thought I would share some of the photos on here. One, in case they can provide inspiration for others, and two, because they are simply beautiful.

Please note. You do NOT have permission to take these photos. They are copyrighted to me. This is embedded in the photos metadata. I'm sorry for the copyright symbols that have blocked some of the detail on the photos. But I do NOT want people taking these and using them as they wish.

Lindisfarne Priory

Lindisfarne Priory on Holy Island was one of the most important centres of early Christianity in Anglo-Saxon England. It is still a place of pilgrimage today, the dramatic approach across the causeway adding to the fascination of the site.

St Aidan founded the monastery in AD 635, but St Cuthbert, prior of Lindisfarne, is the most celebrated of the priory's holy men. Buried in the priory, his remains were transferred to a pilgrim shrine there after 11 years, and found still undecayed - a sure sign of sanctity.

Etal Castle

Etal Castle is a ruined medieval fortification in the village of Etal, Northumberland, England. It was built around 1341 by Robert Manners, and comprised a residential tower, a gatehouse and a corner tower, protected by a curtain wall.

I'm now looking forward to going away again. I just have no idea where we're going yet. For now, it's back to writing and my art.

Choose
your partnerships carefully…

“Collecting and torturing a soul is dangerous business, my sister,” Zen said.
“So was becoming Queen of Hell. What’s problematic about going with the flow?”
More of the same unblinking stare from him. “If you go rogue, Madison…”
Madison slammed against the window-wall behind her. Despite the pane’s solidness, she felt it shimmy when it received the brunt of her weight. Recognizing Zen’s new demonstration of power, she elevated her eyebrows at him. With a smirk, she rubbed her back against the glass. She palmed her dragon blade as she flung a ninja star. He leaned to the side, dodging the star with ease. Of course she missed.
“You can’t kill me.”
Only his creator could take him down.
Madison palmed her other dagger and eased away from the window. “Is this you coming for me, Zen?”
His one-shoulder shrug sufficed as an answer. The pounding on the door, followed by Nix and Micah’s yelling further answered her question. Zen had magically locked them out. That’d been why she saw his power flare for a brief second during their conversation.
She went for him. He blocked each jab and slash. Every kick and punch. She eyed him as they circled one another.
He toys with us, her demon remarked.
Of course he does, that was Zen’s way when they sparred.
“Have I not taught you anything?” He smacked her across the cheek in a whip-like move she hadn’t seen coming. It wasn’t hard enough to hurt, but the blow stung all the same. “You tire yourself knowing I’m the superior fighter. It’s like you sacrifice yourself to me. Too easy.”
They went at it again. She tripped over a rug, stumbled backward, and came up dead-footed with her spine against the windowpanes. He moved into her space. Eye-to-eye they stared at one another, her panting the only racket in the room.
“So this is how it all ends?” she asked as he elevated a hand and braced it against the glass next to her head.
“Maybe...”
The door practically throbbed from all the kicking, pounding, and magic thrown at it. “You’re scaring my men.”
“They should be terrified.”
Madison settled her hand on his arm. “I trust you.”
She chugged his magic harder than she ever had anyone’s, and screamed as pain slashed through her head. Zen’s eyes widened, silver bright, and he jerked away as his magic held strong, barring her husbands from the room.
Zen stumbled, his footing off, and he swayed a moment before going to a knee. Wincing as the pain receded, Madison circled him and secured her blade in its leather holster.

She threaded her fingers in his hair and pulled his head back. His shallow breathing surprised her, “Concede defeat?”

Gracen is a hopeless daydreamer masquerading as a “normal” person in southern society. When not writing, she’s a full-time basketball/lacrosse/guitar mom for her two sons and a devoted wife to her real-life hero-husband of over twenty years. She has an unusual relationship with her muse, Dom, but credits all her creative success to his brilliant mind. She’s addicted to writing, paranormal romance novels and movies, Alabama football, and coffee...addictions are not necessarily in order of priority. She’s convinced coffee is nectar from the gods and when blending coffee and writing together it generates the perfect creative merger. Many of her creative worlds are spawned from coffee highs and Dom’s aggressive demands. Gracen writes is multiple genres—paranormal romance, paranormal erotic romance, and contemporary romance. Pre-made Covers.

I've not been in the right frame of mind to write for the last few days. Those who are friends with me on Facebook will know all about what happened over weekend, with my mum and dad being in a motorbike accident.
I really needed to do something that kept my mind ticking over, but which would also chill me out. So I turned to Photoshop and created a few more pre-made covers. I'm completely in love with the top one lol.
